Throwing out your back usually means that the muscles in your lower back have gone into spasm due to a strain from bending, lifting or twisting the wrong way. This spasm that occurs causes pain that, luckily for most, is only temporary. There are some occasions where low back pain can be caused by something that is more serious than a “tweak” and should require a trip to the emergency room. These things could be an infection, cancer, or a broken vertebra.

Shoveling appears to be a simple task with little risk, however, there are in fact many risks that most are not aware of if you are shoveling incorrectly. If you are suffering from heart issues, it may be best to sit this one out or ask for help from a loved one or friend, especially in heavier snow accumulations.
